Crossing the Visibility Threshold with Grace (Instead of Force)-Part Two
In my last article, I introduced the idea of the visibility threshold—that charged moment when you’re about to share your work with the world. It’s a tender place that often stirs up fear. The good news? You don’t have to cross that threshold with force or perfectionism. There are gentler, more supportive ways to step forward.
Why Forcing Doesn’t Work
Many of us try to push ourselves through visibility with sheer willpower: “Just do it,” “Get over it,” “Don’t be scared.” While this sometimes gets the job done, it often leaves the nervous system overwhelmed. You might post something and then spiral into self-criticism, or perform and then crash in exhaustion. Visibility becomes a cycle of adrenaline and recovery, instead of a sustainable practice.
There’s another way.
Cross with Grace
Crossing thresholds can become intentional, almost ceremonial moments. Here are a few practices to experiment with:
Micro-Rituals: Before sharing, light a candle, take three breaths, or dedicate your action to someone or something meaningful. Small rituals turn visibility into a sacred act, not just a stressful one.
Somatic Anchors: Feel your feet on the ground, let your eyes rest on the room around you, or take a long exhale. These cues remind your body that you are safe, even in exposure.
Compassionate Reframe: Visibility isn’t just about self-promotion—it’s an act of service. Sharing your work could be the very thing someone else needs right now.
Reflection for You
What tiny ritual could help you cross your next visibility threshold with more ease?
Which somatic practice feels most grounding for you—breath, movement, or sensory awareness?
Can you reframe your next moment of being seen as an offering rather than a performance?
A Gentle Reminder
Crossing the visibility threshold doesn’t have to be dramatic. It can be a slow step, a soft opening, a practice you grow over time. Each time you share your work, you expand your capacity to hold visibility—not just for yourself, but for those you inspire.
If you’re longing for more tools and community around this, my workshop Between Your Work and the World was designed exactly for this: helping creatives, entrepreneurs, and leaders cross thresholds with nervous system awareness and confidence. You don’t have to do this alone.
